When you apply, they specify the following: “We’re planning to accept a limited set of contributors to start, and we’re particularly looking for those with expertise in key topic areas (US politics, science, technology, personal development, business and start-ups).”

That was discouraging but I applied anyway and tried to make a case from the humor and personal narratives side. I hope they do support us, seeing as non-expert people are a huge part of Medium’s community. Sad to see poetry and fiction ignored too.
